Greenery

Does mood affect my reading? Yes. I have
to be in the mood for a particular genre.
Hope you’re in the mood for apocalypse in
a green kind of way with my MicroNovel.

GREENERY
an Eco-MicroNovel
by
Bloggger Bard
***

Ch 1. The Past: Stonehenge; towering stones say nature is mother. The Present: Towering banks say man thinks he’s king – light into shadow.

Ch 2. The stones soak up nature spirit, create Eco-Warrior as one day he’ll be needed as man leaves the natural cycle & advances – destroys.

Ch 3. Today: nature designed by man; mere greenery. Good to smell but he doesn’t know that if petals were sharp they’d bite off his nose.

Ch 4. Afraid. People leave home-box in car-box for office-box; forage in shop-box for food-boxes. Fear of nature has them boxed in.

Ch 5. Our villain is a metaphor for the bastards who pollute. Mr BigBiz sits in his office, greenery nowhere. Boxed in more than most.

Ch 6. Tick Tock Men serve him. They used to be human but now are machine-like. It’s no conspiracy. When minds think alike they act alike. Blind.

Ch 7. Lost souls of dead things belch from exhaust & chimney, but now they gather, choke, as Eco-Warrior returns with the wind & the heat.

Ch 8. BigBiz is taken – poured into a pipe, mixed with air (low carb diet?) & pistons pound & explode; vomit him out as the oily slime he is.

Ch 9. But Eco-Warrior is not yet finished. Fuel rods expel & heavy water seeps into every molecule & a mini-sun radiates, pulling atom from atom.

Ch 10. Now BigBiz is part of nature himself – not greenery but real as tendrils climb & trees sway, branches – tentacles – wrapping him in fear.

Ch 11. Chain-reaction now as hypermarkets erupt, junk food forming slime as shoppers forget therapy & sink, celebs popping as the zits they hide.

Ch 12. And banks evicerate, their wealth pointless now, their high towers turning to stone as nature declares bankruptcy of man; loan terminated.

Ch 13. Standing stones taller now. Triumphant. And Mother Nature nurtures child in her womb. This time the umbilical cord will remain.

Shapes

When the clocks change and it gets darker,
that’s a good time to take out my complete
collection of Poe, father of so many genres.
I suppose the following SCARY MicroNovel
could be in his tradition.

SHAPES
A ScarySciFi MicroNovel
by
Ulrika Feyn
***
WARNING: You might find some scenes scary
***

Ch 1. Sue had called me to the lab. Nano tech; atom sized robots. The Boffins had done it! But when they showed intelligence & disappeared …

Ch 2. ‘They began making shapes,’ said Sue, ‘of their own choosing.’ It was hard for her to go back so soon after her husband died.

Ch 3. But she shaped up. It was strange to see the lab, shapely, modern, isolated, & so close to the the graveyard. A strange justaposition.

Ch 4. Earlier, in the village pub, the old locals had told about strange shapes they’d seen. They had their own pentangle shapes to ward them off.

Ch 5. We were outside, looking at the graveyard. We saw a skeleton hand punch up from the ground. ‘O’ell, they’re out agin,’ said a local. He ran.

Ch 6. So did we; back to the lab. Taking an existing shape had increased their power; & when they came thru a keyhole, their dead eyes chilled.

Ch 7. Soon there were dozens of them. The Boffins tried to cut their power but as they were touched, their own eyes glazed over & were lost.

Ch 8. We ran thru the wood the Nanos on our tail. Ahead of us we saw torches making their own shapes & we bumped into the locals, chanting.

Ch 9. Sue had gone. I searched; found her. Shocked, I saw her dead husband approaching, about to touch. Yet she smiled, touched his face …

Ch 10. It was a scene from a Gothic novel. Torches flared, lighting up the woods. Chants abounded; pentangle shapes flew & the Nanos fled.

Ch 11. Denouement came by the lab. Surviving Boffins came out, machinery whirring; locals closed in – & Sue walked hand in hand with her ghost.

Ch 12. Finally, in a flash, the Nanos were gone. A calm descended. But who won? Science? Superstition? Love? I cuddled Sue as she cried.

Ch 13. So that’s my tale. But is it over? The Nanos were never found. Some say they integrated into the Net, waiting. Check your laptop … NOW!!

Wonder

What am I reading now? Actually, I’m
suffering book starvation as I proof read
my own work for my free eBook series. The
works of others are piling up around me.
My latest MicroNovel is short enough to
beat the queue, though.

WONDER
an Adventure MicroNovel
by
‘X’
***

Ch 1. When the secret was stolen the Mandarins wondered who it was. Panic hit the heart of Conspiracy & it was no wonder I was called in.

Ch 2. I was with Wonder at the time, having a wonderful time, but it would be good to be in action again. The order had come from the Top.

Ch 3. Mandarins, you see, answered to Politicos, who answered to Fat Cats, who answered to God – at least, that’s what they called the voice.

Ch 4. I investigated. A man in shadow, they all knew me, tailed me; the Fleming Effect. But I tailed them as they tailed me. We all got dizzy.

Ch 5. ‘Twas a Boy’s Own adventure for men who will be boys; & there was only one answer. To protect the secret I had to kill them all …

Ch 6. … & they had to try to kill me. Wonder came with me – there’s no story without a beautiful girl; & an assault rifle under my jacket.

Ch 7. I turned over every stone looking for the secret. All I got were words. I had to play them at their own game & the clues were cryptic.

Ch 8. Turning point came with a firefight. I killed 100s – ah, the beauty of the game; a ballet of blood, opera of screams; Dante’s Inferno.

Ch 9. I was cornered; sent Wonder as a diversion. They killed her. Another arrived. ‘Are you Wonder?’ ‘If you like.’ She had a wonderful tail.

Ch 10. We escaped in a fast car; swapped for a speed boat; hid in a sub; stole a plane, hijacked Branson’s orbiter – slingshot round the Moon.

Ch 11. Then only the spy. Predictably it was ‘Y’, ‘cos a question follows ‘X’. I led him down a twisty road. Smoke confused & mirrors dazzled.

Ch 12. It was done, the secret safe – ’til Wonder held up a gun. I’d wondered if she’d had a twist in her tail. Smiling, I disarmed her.

Ch 13. I reported to Mandarin. The secret was safe. Yet I couldn’t help but wonder what it was. Mandarin smiled. ‘Does it matter,’ he said.

Confessions

Being an ME/cfs sufferer I am virtually
housebound for long periods so a library
is not an option. To compensate, I’ve
created my own library at home. Talking
of creating, this MicroNovel is very
different. I THINK it works.

CONFESSIONS
A PsychoSoap MicroNovel
by
Blogger Bard
***

Ch 1. Should I confess? Should we all? I’m Greed; wanted it all. My girl, Desire, was too narrow-minded. Money was good, too, so I left her.

Ch 2. People aim for wealth, celebrity. Forget it should come with talent. Ego had it so I took it. Yet he consumed me. It was a potent mix.

Ch 3. For a while I had Joy, but I confess I ruined it. When we split she felt Sad; which was the start of a great couple. But I had problems.

Ch 4. I’d upset too many & Vengeance was stalking me. I went to Desire for help but she’d moved in with Joy & Sad, who was slowly dissolving.

Ch 5. Desire was such a cheat. Joy really knew herself now. Yet as they walked they avoided the big ‘L’ in the lake – hadn’t to fall in Love.

Ch 6. Meanwhile Sad clung to me. I’d thrown away Joy & Desire for wealth, with Vengeance on my tail. Ego ran off, then. Confidence is a con.

Ch 7. I had to survive to succeed. I confess I tricked Vengeance – set him up with Desire. Both fanatics, it was a stormy time. Ended bad.

Ch 8. You see, Vengeance was never alone. He worked with Hate & soon Hate turned on everyone who was touched by Desire. Emotions ran wild.

Ch 9. After that, no one had Desire – too much Fear – & she seemed to die. Which left it all in my grasp! Greed was out! What I’d Desired.

Ch 10. But more than that, Sad left me. She went back to Joy, permanently, but Joy was never the same. Sad infected everyone she touches.

Ch 11. When Hate crept up on me, I’m not sure. He’d killed off Desire but he wore my face. I realised Greed can never survive, untouched.

Ch 12. So this is my confession – good for Soul. Greed eased, we all came together in the cerebral bedsit & lived happily ever after.

Ch 13. Except … that’s when Ego came back. I was passing big ‘L’ & fell in Love with my image. Oh, & Joy & Sad adopted. A boy. Bi-Polar.

Scents

What do I love about reading? Well,
unlike a movie, words are inefficient –
which is the point. A film does the work
for you so you don’t have to think.
Reading is an interaction between writer
& reader, with the reader using mind to
create FROM the words. But what will
you make of THIS MicroNovel?

SCENTS
A Ghostie MicroNovel
by
Harry Fang
***

Ch 1. The killer smothered the man to death. It was done in the shadows, but the boy saw? Conjecture. Sensed. But the killer saw the boy.

Ch 2. The boy sat among the graves. He had no fear of them. Mostly he kept his eyes shut. Bad world. Yet here, he loved the scents of death.

Ch 3. They say: deprive one sense another compensates. But he hated the scent of the killer. He put it with his parent’s death; his leukaemia.

Ch 4. The killer saw the problem. The sad boy who wouldn’t open his eyes & smelt things. He’d seen him often. What if he caught HIS scent?

Ch 5. After a while the occupants of the graves danced for the boy. Scents mingled & produced images in his mind. He hated his bald head.

Ch 6. A pathetic life. Since losing his parents, home after home, each with a different scent. Then of hospital, & leukaemia smelled rotten!

Ch 7. When he left the graves the ghosts went too. Nothing could beat the scent of love. It was good; but what was the evil smell he sensed?

Ch 8. The killer – he KNEW it was. And when he pounced his ghosts were ready. You should have seen the killer flee – scurrying off like that.

Ch 9. It had been a shock for the boy. The shrinks had to drag him from the graves as the ghosts cried – put him in therapy once more.

Ch 10. The boy’s eyes were shut tighter now, as if trying to end life itself. The ghosts tried to help but bounced off a wall of scepticism.

Ch 11. When life gets unbearable we can raise the will to fight or give in. But a child, bald, his eyes shut? Yet the ghosts knew.

Ch 12. And the killer would do better next time. He got rid of all scents. An anticeptic, chemical smell assaulted the boy; crept within him.

Ch 13. The boy sat by the graves. A ghostly hand reached out, & another. He opened his eyes as his hair grew & his parents took him to heaven.

Secrets

So someone tells me they hate a book.
This is important. Is it worth reading or
not? An equation is necessary: book + tastes
of informant = yes or no. One man’s hate is
another’s love. Now, you WILL love the
following MicroNovel.

SECRETS
A Sci Fi MicroNovel
by
Ulrika Feyn
***

Ch 1. How do we communicate with you? How do we pass on the message of your destruction – of the secret? You don’t understand. But you must!!!

Ch 2. Earth burned long ago. We were the last to leave. Galactic explorers in search of secrets. Forced into this ‘cos we ignored Earth.

Ch 3. Are we still human? We found a secret. Were curious. An anomaly. We ventured into its gravitational flux. It was crushing. Literally.

Ch 4. Oh, Earth!! The argument; natural cycle or man-made? Yet a car, balanced on the edge of a cliff, can be tilted over by a human finger.

Ch 5. I hope we’re human. This secret place squashed us small, our eyes bulging, complexion ashen. Was it the Cosmos jailing us for our ways?

Ch 6. We kept our anxieties secret. We’d upset the others. But our minds roamed – saw the secrets of our stupidity, our history, our error.

Ch 7. It’s hard to say when we transcended. Mind & wormhole seemed the same, showing secrets of the universe, & with a thought we saw Earth.

Ch 8. It still lived in our past. Our souls thundered in the clouds; lit up the sky. We know you saw but didn’t understand. We MUST talk to you!

Ch 9. Secrets. Damn them! Your Govt knows we exist, but cover-up – fear of the unknown. we’re ‘fun’. Little GREEN men. What you should be. Irony!

Ch 10. We stamp in the corn; hover above you, pleading! Listen to our secret! Yet black-clad Govt men confuse. You research. Miss the point.

Ch 11. Impregnation! Was that the key? Put our soul into past humanity so the secret will out in you. Yet the spark causes Channelled gibberish.

Ch 12. If only we could escape our jail physically & not just in spirit. What use transcendence if we can’t pass our secret? Religion bound.

Ch 13. Please listen to the secret. You strive ‘cos you fear yourselves. And then destroy. WE are the gods of your future. If you have one.

Chocolate

Do I loan my books? I’m a non-
materialist kind of guy but that goes
regarding my books. Loan them? Never.
They’re mine!!! And I’m the same with
chocolate, the subject of the
MicroNovel below.

CHOCOLATE
A Strange Romance
Wotdunit MicroNovel
by
Blogger Bard
***

Ch 1. She was reading when it came; & eating chocolate. They say too much pleasure leads to pain – & it hurt as the entity entered her head.

Ch 2. That’s how it began – for her. For me? When I found the body of the old man, smeared in, and choked by, chocolate. I called the cops.

Ch 3. The cops put the death down to erotic play. I didn’t. I asked around – got a description of a girl who visited. Then, another death.

Ch 4. It was developing into serial killing by chocolate. He was young. I got a break when I learnt of his old girlfriend. The same woman?

Ch 5. I tracked her down. She asked me in. Pretty, 25, her eyes stared. She was gorging on chocolate. Talking, she wasn’t herself, but many.

Ch 6. Chocolate: a great pleasure, yet indulgence so close to insanity. ‘Twas clear the girl needed help. I took her to a hypnotist friend.

Ch 7. Yes, good reader, she was possessed. Many incarnations came thru; a history of lovers since chocolate was invented. And the last one?

Ch 8. When the 1st victim was younger, he had jilted her, driving her to suicide. She had come back for revenge. ‘Twas the one tale she told.

Ch 9. A mind full of so many jilted loves. Is there any wonder she hated, killed, gorged!!? I decided to help her. Oh, I was such a fool!

Ch 10. The cops getting close, I hid her. She was grateful. Her gorging slowed from a love to a peck in the cheek. We had sex. But my wife!?

Ch 11. Was I mad? An affair with an insane killer on the run? And my wife … Did she suspect? That look in her eyes & … gorging …

Ch 12. When a woman eats chocolate, it’s sex. When gorged they eat for jilted lovers all. Now? Both of them. Bowls of chocolate – my throat!

Ch 13. The cops found me in time. 2 more for the asylum of lost love. They gorge regularly. Men! Keep a watchful eye for the Chocky Monster.

Rhythm

I love music but I cannot read and listen
together. It’s like having 2 lovers. Best
done one at a time. The MicroNovel below
has a rhythm all its own.

RHYTHM
A Wotdunit MicroNovel
by
D.I. Cass Nova
***

Ch 1. A Box – an oubliette? The rhythm of life beats away, & beat me good. He watches me from the hatch, his eyes piercing me. My Nemesis!!

Ch 2. Rhythms can be bad, pulsing through life & sanity. Where do I begin? I always felt boxed in. Until I met Sue. Joy! Then. Oh, why!!?

Ch 3. Can a serial killer stalk a person? Of course, when Sue was found, murdered, mutilated, I didn’t know who he was. But life soon told.

Ch 4. What do we strive for? Lying in the box, HIM staring down, I wonder. Why did I get over Sue so quick? Wasn’t she enough. Did HE know?

Ch 5. Afterwards, I got on with life. Lived the rhythm. Money, women – it all came to me. It took the police to tell me why. So many deaths!

Ch 6. He offers a sickening grin. The police never found him – couldn’t be sure they were murders or accidents. He got clever after Sue.

Ch 7. But why? What made him do it? I set a trap. A stooge to coax him in. He struck! But first attacked me. When I awoke I was bloodsoaked.

Ch 8. It looked bad for me. I hid the body. Became an accomplice. I battled with conscience, of course. I was a good person, I knew. But …

Ch 9. What drove me on, I don’t know. The killer was now so often by my side. Yet with all we did then, my success declined. No rhythm, see.

Ch 10. I didn’t take well to poverty. It was as if a part of me had gone & I couldn’t find myself. My new rhythm was a cacophony of conflict.

Ch 11. I wandered, a tramp, asking if it had all been worth it. People I asked ignored me – felt me mad. How dare they? Was that the problem?

Ch 12. To be ignored – the worse thing of all. I wasn’t someone but had to become someone. That was my rhythm – and now? I hear my dirge.

Ch 13. A Box. I lay in my coffin, my suicide done, victim to my own urges, my Hell? Their – MY!! – killer watching me for eternity; my Ego.

Serpids

When it’s cold I like nothing better
than a novel based in a hot climate. If
you can’t get warm outside, feel it
inside. Psychology works. The MicroNovel
below is not one of them, though.

SERPIDS
A MicroNovel of a horror-ible life
by
Harry Fang
***
Not to be read by Arachnophobics
***

Ch 1. The spider was there – it always was. But enough! I tortured it. Then … Splat! Yet … I could have sworn it gave a look of hate.

Ch 2. Can they get in the mind – your world? I imagined the beastie everywhere & such a web of circumstance began, as if trapped. Paranoia!

Ch 3. My descent into madness. Crawling thru life, the spiders crawling over my skin, unseen. I scratch – try to erase the bad. Scream!

Ch 4. I was stung; in everything. Career collapsed. Wife left. Sanity gone. I live in fevered mind – as do they. Crawling. Damn victimhood!

Ch 5. Driving will save me. Escape! Creditors, enemies, all crawl, itsie bitsie, towards me. And the wall! It hits my car. Blood. Do I die?

Ch 6. Elevator, down. Getting hot, dark. So this is death. Ebony black; those crawling monsters blacker. Is Hell for creepy crawlies? Am I?

Ch 7. The Doc said I went splat. But he rebuilt me; an intricate web of silk? Cocooned? But not my mind. No, not now they wanted revenge.

Ch 8. To cheat death. I drew into myself; went to the country. Recluse. Alone with nature, nest-led in harmony. To awaken, crawling over me.

Ch 9. There came a time. Hope arose. I shrouded myself in concrete – the city. Fewer horrors. Eased the mind. I could live. Go on. Thrive!

Ch 10. Confidence reborn. Was that all it took for rebirth? I spun my own web of optimism. A job came. A home. A woman! And fulfilment.

Ch 11. Life was good – as long as I didn’t look in the corner of my eye. The terrors, the monsters, gone. They do with a good woman to kiss.

Ch 12. If only vanity had not come, also. Why did I look in the mirror? See the world reversed, as it was! Then, consumed by a black widow.

Ch 13. Epilogue. Karma. I’m behind you, creeeping, crawwwling along. You can’t see me yet – ’til I touch your leg. Splat me!!! If you dare.
