Polly Ticks says … 56% of UK electorate would vote to leave EU, it seems. But we were never asked to vote for anything but a ‘common market’ in the 70s. So much for democracy. We should cooperate with Europe, not assimilate.
My Xenophobia page

Polly Ticks says … It seems there is a surge in minority, and extremist, parties in the UK. An inevitability when the major parties become divorced from the people and, increasingly, from real life. The party system is corrupt & redundant.
My Politics page

Polly Ticks says … I’ve often argued there is too much red tape in equality and other areas. The govt, it seems, is reducing it. But only where it impacts on business, thus allowing local protests to be ignored. Can this govt become any more heinous?

Harry Fang says:

NEST: His nest seemed to be made of
straw, fragile, like his chances of
survival. They attacked, their bills
pecking, intruding on any hope of
getting through this. ‘The vultures’,
he said, throwing them in the bin,
homelessness approaching.
***
His parched throat stung – pain
The mirage took on new life
Desert in his mind
***
BACKBONE: Sat on the bike seat behind
Dad, Toddler knew all about backbone.
He stared at Dad’s. But his was twisted
as he turned away. Dad was windy.
***
Time kept repeating
The pain – again and again
He loathed re-action
***
THE CHAIR: The room was derelict, the
only chair, old, worn out. It had seated
many haunted spirits – the homeless, the
destitute, the ill, the pitiful; ghosts
of society – unseen, lest we scream.

Pappa Razzi says … As the BBC faces its greatest crisis, lets hope its chairman, Chris Patten – the last Governor of Hong Kong – does not repeat that trend. The BBC is the only real challenger to commercial broadcasting.

RATTLERS’ TALE

MARRIAGE: ‘Marriage is anti-
evolutionary,’ said the scientist. ‘The
gene pool is enriched by spreading our
seed.’ The philosopher countered: ‘But
evolution has no order. Man is because
of love.’ The priest said: ‘Will one of
you please say I do.’ The lawyer rubbed
his hands together, greedily.
***
When I laid down roots
I branched out and soon flourished
Turned over new leaf
***
GENERIC: The teacher despaired as the 2
kids fought over 2 identical toy monkeys.
‘They’re the same,’ she said. ‘Who stole
my SUV?’ she said later.
***
To write is to live
The writer pondered his role
To live is to write
***
THE PATH: The path looked so inviting.
They began to walk and never stopped as
life took them over. Had they had
binoculars to see the twists and turns,
wouldn’t it have been unfulfilling?
Both their tears and smiles said yes.

Polly Ticks says … Obama gets 4 more yrs. Why are western govts always staying in for more than one term now? Votes should always go to the party not in power. Don’t give any long enough to do damage.

Prof Isaac Galistein says … UK suffering a brain drain again, as professionals go overseas. Britain has forgotten how to run itself. A lack of imagination in an increasingly decadent country.

THE CRIME POST

STRUGGLE: When her husband was
kidnapped she struggled with the
silence. She was told: do NOT contact
the police. She never told; nor paid
the ransom. And weeks later her
struggle failed and she
screamed: ‘Yes!!!’
***
Not a sound is heard
Struggle through the crescendo
Silence is noisy
***
AMPHIBIAN: His criminal types called
him Amphibian for his escapes. But as
he stared at the road, police close, he
said: where’s the sewage cover gone?
***
He was so fierce
Vanquished all – except his own
Inadequacy
***
REMEMBER THEM: The battle looked so
abstract as they looked down from above.
Recently departed, they pondered upon
truth, the greatest abstract of all. For
there IS only one truth: there isn’t
one. Yet still the politician criminals
sent them. But there IS a cause …
So remember this as they fall,
They died for their loved one,
The noblest cause of all

Polly Ticks says … Brutal cuts are turning local govt in UK into lackeys of central govt with no money left to make decisions themselves. This is the opposite to how services should work. Welcome to Britain by dictat.
My Politics page

Guru Tony says … Green policies in UK may as well be dumped as coal usage increases. Mindst you, ‘green’ is only used by govt inefficiently so as to ‘prove’ the only low-carbon option is nuclear. Which is wrong.
My Environment page

Pappa Razzi says … Penguin and Random House are to merge, making the world’s biggest book publisher. I’ve noticed as publishers get bigger, opportunities for innovation in writing decline. It’s called the death of culture.

GREEN SCENE

REPORT FROM GABRIEL: After the
hurricane hit the city they wiped
themselves down and carried on. This
is further evidence of lack of faith.
Technology allowed survival and
fear is reduced. It just was
not seen as Biblical.
***
Natural is best
But just what is natural?
That which is balance
***
CYNICAL: They were the perfect couple.
The pilot polluted, the nurse cured the
ills he caused. Let’s be cynical. Not
the balance nature intended.
***
To live with nature
But Paradise is so dull
When desires rule
***
AFTERTHOUGHT: She sat on the empty farm,
the animals, the plants, all gone,
frizzled away in the eco-disaster. Finally,
out of the bunker, she smiled at the
camera, wondering what the photographer
would taste like.
