Guru Tony says … The London Olympics is close, but in typical British fashion, problems mount. As armies of pick-pockets descend from Eastern Europe, the security company contracted to guard has fallen short by 1,000s of personnel (Army called out again to cover). Hopefully the baddies won’t get in, as border control personnel are planning a strike. Isn’t it good how the Olympics fosters good will.

Polly Ticks says … Tory rebels recently derailed plan to make House of Lords elected. Good. With the most successful professionals appointed there it is the best think tank the UK has. And with neutral cross-benchers aplenty, party politics is often derailed. So many times this undemocratic chamber has represented the views of the electorate more closely than the elected House, and forced the MPs to rethink.

Dr Illya Ness says … Average family needs £37k for decent living – way above most incomes. When small group earns high, average wage goes too high for poor. As prices rise to the average, they get poorer.
