Polly Ticks says … Does UK govt plan to privatise police? Some constabularies offer contracts to private firms to investigate crimes. Being businesses, their ideology will be corporate. As this is the present ideology society & govt lives by, how is this different from political police?

Major de Ranger says … The west fears economic decline as China’s economy grows, but as they raise military spending 11% due to regional disputes, remember: China’s history is one of totalitarianism & then fragmentation. As the poor see the rich, the latter is maybe close.

ESSAY: INCUBUS - An Incubus is a male demon who, according to many mythological traditions, lies upon a sleeping female to have sex, thus taking her vitality. It is, infact, one of the more interesting paranormal phenomena. First, because it can be linked psychologically to sexual fantasy, and second, it is a clear precursor of the vampire legend.

Your economic page -Loud thinking on system which is not based on any ideology but on how efficiently human potential can be put to use, to serve people best. I too feel lots of work need to be done to bring systemic changes to get rid of inefficient practices.

On Confirmation – For those generous ones, in death there is life. Excellent piece here.

Hi Harshad, thanks for that. Yes, single systems are always wrong, and any system that puts itself above people is equally wrong, in my view.

Incubus is a great I word. I don’t like the idea of private police although in the U.S. there are an increasing number of gated communities that employ private guards which is kind of like private police. Carver, ABC Wednesday Team

  25. Hazel said on March 13, 2012

In The Devil Wears Prada, whoever, the author or the actress says “‘Incubus’ of viral plague” must mean something else. And I was watching Twilight last night;)

  26. Anthony North said on March 14, 2012

Hi Hazel, I’ve never heard that interpretation before. Mindst you, meanings of words continually change. The two most common usages are a male sexual demon, and a nightmarish burden.

I believe the definition of fascism is the marriage of government and industry. That’s what we’re close to here with the corporate god who can do no wrong. In the meantime, stupid books and movies and moronic tv suck our sanity. We all sit in a trance with our 3-d glasses on and let them do what they will.

  57. Daydreamertoo said on March 16, 2012

If they privatise the police force there will be no end of corruption. It isn’t that good now, with money as another incentive there will be so many false charges and false evidence against people, honest folks won’t stand a chance.
As far as vampires goes, I think most legends/myth have their basis in part truth. If we didn’t ‘see’ it we’d never be able to dream it up, would we? Maybe vampires did exist a few thousand years ago and mankind/illness they had no defence against simply killed them all off. Interesting read though :)

  58. Anthony North said on March 16, 2012

Hi Lea, thanks for that, and you’re welcome.

Hi Daydreamertoo, many thanks. Private police definitely a bad idea -they’d be worse than those vampires ;-)

  59. Sharp Little Pencil said on March 16, 2012

Anthony, love your site. You never hold back! I thought America was the only place where privatizing everything from schools to basic services was on the rise (at least, on the Right; the Left says public schools, not charter schools, are the way forward). Horrendous. A private police force? See “Meet John Doe,” with Gary Cooper. A great example of the rise of Fascism through the rich controlling all. Peace, Amy
