Polly Ticks says … So, the UK govt wants to sell off our roads and motorways for private running. Alongside the Bill to Privatise the Health Service by the Back Door, I’m wondering when the govt itself will be privatised. Oh – damn! – it’s already run by Big Biz.

Guru Tony says … This year’s Brit Budget was unashamedly business friendly, with low paid workers given extra spending power with a rise in tax allowance. But how to pay for it? Easy. Freeze the allowance of 5 million pensioners. What do they spend anyway? It leaves a bad taste in the throat.

GREEN SCENE

The one is as the whole, nature knew.
Man did not. So as man anthropomorphised
nature, nature aped tempestuous man –
’til he was no more.

In wealth we were green
In downturn, selfishness rules
Transition of fools

ESSAY: KINETIC NATURE – Could the planet have a self defence mechanism? Warming causes a more violent climate. This involves changes in electromagnetism. It is known that electromagnetic bombardment of the brain can cause hallucinations and mystical experiences. Spirituality seems to be on the increase, with accompanying eco-awareness. So is the planet fighting back by affecting our minds? Slow Rapture.

TRANSITION: The Alchemist searched long
for perfection and immortality. He knew
the means of his success could be found
everywhere, but where? Why couldn’t he
see? He sat and meditated by a tree for
so long he died of old age. The ground
took him; the roots consumed. He lives
now with the eternal sages; in the
wisdom of the great oaks.

So eager to buy
Yet … eager to save planet
But … eager to buy

Dr Illya Ness says … Many senior doctors in surgeries are left with just one day a week to see patients as UK govt reforms of health service tie them up in reorganisation. Turning doctors into administrators is mad. As I’ve said before: modern efficiency means twice as many experts doing half the work.

Guru Tony says … Half of Britain’s young black men are now unemployed. Why is it so many don’t gel with society? Early IQ tests can offer an answer. It seems those who did best came from the prevalent culture. It seems ‘intelligence’ & belonging is as much about culture as true intelligence. So WE fail them.

ESSAY: JOUSTING – Jousting was part of Medieval ideology, linking warriordom and chivalry to a king who ruled by Divine Right. God and thinking were one. It is similar to computer gaming, changing young minds to think in parallel but without long attention span. Hence, they data process but don’t seek wisdom. Just what today’s corporate world wants.

He killed nearly 100 men to take it,

the only purity he desired.

Polly Ticks says … Does UK govt plan to privatise police? Some constabularies offer contracts to private firms to investigate crimes. Being businesses, their ideology will be corporate. As this is the present ideology society & govt lives by, how is this different from political police?

Major de Ranger says … The west fears economic decline as China’s economy grows, but as they raise military spending 11% due to regional disputes, remember: China’s history is one of totalitarianism & then fragmentation. As the poor see the rich, the latter is maybe close.

Is afterlife real?
No confirmation ’til I …
Die! Can you see me?

ESSAY: INCUBUS – An Incubus is a male demon who, according to many mythological traditions, lies upon a sleeping female to have sex, thus taking her vitality. It is, infact, one of the more interesting paranormal phenomena. First, because it can be linked psychologically to sexual fantasy, and second, it is a clear precursor of the vampire legend.

Polly Ticks says … Piecing snippets of news together to discover a wider picture is the role of the commentator. It can disclose hidden agendas. So what are we to make of the suggestion of beating Somali pirates on land, coupled with the UK leading dash for oil in Somalia? Watch that space.

Pappa Razzi says … It was obvious Murdoch would resurrect a Sunday paper to replace disgraced News of the World, and he has. But as media inquiry is told of ‘culture of illegal payments’ to officials, his son, James, is forced to resign. Live by scandal, die by scandal.

ESSAY: HI-TECH – Hi-tech often seems to come from realms of science fiction. But a question: does tech need to be so advanced, or in some areas would we be better off with lower tech? Technology used to be devised to fill a need for it in society. Now tech has need for society. The balance has turned.
